Artist Trust Fellowships are designed to recognize artistic achievement, dedication to an artistic discipline and potential for further professional development. Fellowships are merit-based and not project grants. In 2015, 14 artists working in Emerging Fields/Cross-Disciplinary, Performing, Folk/Traditional and Visual Arts will receive $7,500 each.  (Fellowships for artists working in Craft, Literary, Media and Music Arts will be available in 2016.) In addition to these 14 artists, Artist Trust has partnered with the Millay Colony for the Arts, located in upstate New York, to award one artist each in the Emerging Fields/Cross-Disciplinary and Visual Arts with a one-month residency at The Millay Colony with $1,000 stipends.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

The 2015 Fellowships are open to generative artists residing in Washington State working in the disciplines of Emerging Fields/Cross-Disciplinary, Performing, Traditional/Folk and Visual Arts.

APPLICANTS MAY NOT BE:

•    Recipients of AT Fellowships from 2008–2014;

•    Recipients of two prior AT Fellowships (artists may receive up to two Fellowships in a lifetime);

•    Previous recipients of  the James W. Ray Distinguished Artist or Arts Innovator Awards;

•    Recipients of more than one AT grant per calendar year;

•    Graduate or undergraduate, matriculated students enrolled in any degree program at the deadline date of January 20, 2015;

•    Current AT staff, Board of Trustees, honorary committee, consultants, contractors, current AT Fellowship panelists or their immediate family.

APPLICANTS MUST BE:

•  18 years of age or older;

•  Washington State residents at the time of application and payment (payment may be made up to one year after the application date);

•  Generative artists: those who are the originators of a work of art.

AT will confirm applicant eligibility and make the final determination with regards to eligibility.

MEET THE ARTIST

Meet the Artist (MTA) is an integral part of the Fellowship program. Recipients present an MTA event outside of their geographic area of residence or to a community that would not ordinarily have access to their work within Washington State. Each  recipient develops and arranges an MTA event and submits a final report on his or her experience.

THE MILLAY COLONY OF THE ARTS RESIDENCY

AT is partnering with The Millay Colony to provide one artist each in the Emerging Fields/Cross-Disciplinary and Visual Arts with a one-month residency and a $1,000 stipend. Artists in these disciplines need to indicate their interest in the residency when applying for the Fellowship and provide a summary of how they would use the residency. They are also required to develop a Meet the Artist event.

The Millay Colony will provide each artist a private bedroom and studio, as well as all meals and access to resources (libraries, dark room,  music room and meadows adjacent to the Harvey Mountain State Forest). The residency director oversees all aspects of the artist's experience from travel to/from the colony to dietary needs and the quality of workspace.

SELECTION PROCESS & CRITERIA

Panelists review all eligible applications via CaFÉ and make recommendations based on:

•    subjective judgment of artistic excellence as presented in the application and work samples;

•    the professional background of the artist; and

•    evidence of continuing dedication to artistic discipline.
