Tokyo Wonder Site Call for Artists

Tokyo Wonder Site is an art center dedicated to the generation and promotion of new art and culture from the heart of Tokyo. While TWS Hongo supports and nurtures young talent in all fields in programs related to the government-hosted "Tokyo Wonder Wall" exhibition of works chosen from among entries from the general public, TWS Shibuya is a hub in a global cultural network of affiliated cultural facilities in Japan and abroad, and at once a platform for both new talents and internationally active creators to exchange and showcase their works.
In addition, TWS Aoyama: Creator-in-Residence opened in 2006 as a venue for creative individuals from all genres and nationalities to pursue their respective work in a shared process. TWS Aoyama:Creator-in-Residence provides a truly diverse range of opportunities for exchange for people of age or gender, and working in any genre. Creative people including artists, curators, researchers, musicians, performers and designers are able to experience the rich history and culture of Tokyo, do research and work, and exhibit their creations.

There are several residency programmes at TWS Aoyama, which function with open calls:
  • Exchange residency programme: Cultural exchange program for emerging artists, between art spaces and cultural institutions overseas that cooperated with Tokyo Wonder Site.
  • Research Residency programme: For creators who research for future work in the cultural environment that Tokyo provides.
  • On site Lab Workshop Programme: A new form of educational program in which world-renowned tutors are invited to work together with young creators on cross-genre projects linking the arts, music and design.
  • Local Creator Residence Programme: For creators who have ability not only to play a central part in cultural exchange with creators from all over the world, but also to produce works during their residency at TWS Aoyama: Creator-in-Residence.
  • International Creator Residency Programme: This program targets skilled middle-careered creators based outside Japan.
