This winter, HMK will be selecting four artists for a short group residency, condensing all the elements that make for a fruitful residency in an intensive four week stay.
In this 4-week residency-project, artists are not only selected to live and work at HMK, but to further develop their own practice, to actively evaluate their own and each other’s work, and to partake in a number of discussions and dinner-sessions. HMK will invite experts (curators and artists) to lead discussions and 'critique-sessions' and will host a number of dinners/discussions throughout the residency. The residency will be concluded with an exhibition of the artists' work in the Maria Chapel.
HMK offers the programme {FullFocus} at NO COSTS for the participants. (Living expenses, travelcosts and materials are to be paid by participants).
About HMK
HMK {Hotel Mariakapel} is an artist-run residency and project space in Hoorn, a 15th century town by the IJsselmeer, just 40 km north of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. The guesthouse is situated in a medieval orphanage and consists of four bedrooms, a shared kitchen/living room and a large attic. The Maria Chapel functions as a studio and projectspace and is located across the semi-private inner garden next to the guesthouse. A residency at HMK includes free use of all facilities (private room, wireless internet, kitchen, washing machine / dryer, basic tools).
HMK requires artists to:
- to actively and constructively engage in the program
- to give a presentation about their work to their peers and an audience
- to bring existing artworks, or to create new work at HMK to discuss and place within a new groupshow in the Chapel.
