What Are We Looking For? 
We seek fellows who :

• Work within at least one of the following disciplines: literary, film, visual arts, performing arts (including dance and music), and curatorial arts (in any kind of medium; e.g. galleries, books, etc.)
• Self-Identify as queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgendered
• Are New York City-based
• Are Not Currently enrolled in school or university
• Are Early-Career and professionally focused
• Have a project that they’d like to work on with a mentor during the 2013-2014 mentorship cycle.

Please read the application requirements below, and submit your contact info and essay responses  using the onlineapplication form. You will not be able to save your application form online, so please complete beforehand.
1.) APPLICATION
Submit the following application materials through the online application form :

• Name, address, and contact info
• Describe a formative experience you’ve had with queer culture (250 words).
• Describe your art; how you and it have evolved; and where you would like to see yourself and your art develop. Please reference the work samples submitted in this application (500 words).
• Describe a specific project you’d like to work on in the next year and share with a mentor over the 2013-2014 mentorship cycle (500 words).
• Describe why you’re interested in the Queer/Art/Mentorship Program; what you feel participation would do for your life, art, and career; and what you can imagine being able to offer to the relationship (250 words).

Film and Video
For Film and Video you may submit one or two recent (within the last five years) work samples. The panel will view 10-12 minutes of your work sample.  Applications with video or film samples must submit their work as an online sample (via YouTube or Vimeo only).

UN offers press fellowship on global issues

Reporters who cover global health issues can apply for a fellowship.

The United Nations Foundation offers a fellowship with a special focus on the role of the UN, global health and international development and will provide fellows with access to leading experts. Fellows will report on the events and announcements made during UN Week, September 22-25.
This fellowship is designed to foster participants’ understanding of the issues surrounding international development and global health. Special consideration will be given to journalists whose portfolios include global health or foreign affairs.
Applicants must be fluent in English. Fellows are required to participate for the entire duration of the four-day program.

Roberto Cimetta Fund | Travel Grants

The Roberto Cimetta Fund is launching the third 2013 open call for travel grants from 1st to 30th June 2013 for two specific funding lines only. The General Fund is now closed for this year and will reopen next year on 1st March 2014. Artists and cultural operators living and working in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula can apply in Arabic, English or French. Priority is given to mobility from the South and East of these regions.

Anna Lindh Mediterranean Journalist Award

Journalists from the 42 counties of the Union the Mediterranean who work on cross-cultural reporting are invited to submit their works for the 7th edition of the Anna Lindh Journalist Award until the 30th of June, while the prize will be announced in London, in October 2013.

The Award, which started in 2006, focuses on intercultural issues between and within the Euro-Mediterranean societies, with a special award dedicated to certain theme every year. This year’s special award is dedicated to the theme ‘Arts for Democracy and Social Change’. Besides this special award, there are also four other categories for press, new media, radio and TV.

THE ANTI-ATLAS OF BORDERS

In the frame of the antiAtlas of borders, a call for proposals is launched for an exhibition at La compagnie in Marseille, from December 13, 2013 to March 1rst, 2014.


The curator and the artistic and scientific committee are looking for various proposals (artworks, net. Art, photo, video, testimonies, documentaries, video games…) expressing different ways to experience borders. Proposals from migrants, professionals and artists are welcome, in order to contribute to prepare a resolutely participatory exhibition.


The antiAtlas of borders is a transdisciplinary event that will take place between September, 30, 2013 and March, 1rst, 2014. Bypassing cartography, at the crossroads of research and art, it offers a new approach of the mutations of borders and on the way they are experienced by people in the 21st century.

International Fund for Cultural Diversity UNESCO Open Call

On 21 March 2013 the IFCD launched its fourth call for funding requests for projects and preparatory assistance requests that aim to foster the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector at the national and/or local level, primarily through activities facilitating the introduction of new cultural policies and cultural industries, or strengthening existing ones.

Since 2010, the IFCD is providing more than USD 3.5 million in funding for 61 projects in 40 developing countries, covering a wide range of areas, from the development and implementation of cultural policies, to capacity-building of cultural entrepreneurs, mapping of cultural industries and the creation of new cultural industry business models.

International residential fellowships Six residential fellowships will be awarded to international visual artists. The partners for this project are KulturKontakt Austria and the “museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig wien” (Museum of Modern Art - mumok) in Vienna. On the basis of the cooperation with mumok, the winner of the Henkel Art.Award. not only receives a monetary prize of 7,000 euros and an exhibition in the artist’s native country, but is also given the great opportunity to display his or her works of art at an individual exhibition in mumok held in the following year, accompanied by the publication of an exhibition catalogue.

Without prescribing any pre-defined themes, the Henkel Art.Award. bestows prizes for outstanding and innovative works of art created by visual artists in Central and Eastern Europe in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video and installation. Darling Foundry Residency in Canada

The International Residency at the Darling Foundry is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.The program supports foreign visual artists from outside of Canada. One residency of six months will be awarded. The schedule of the residency is from the beginning of January 2013 to the end of June 2013. The resident artist will receive a grant amount of $23,000 CDN which contributes towards travel, subsistence, and production costs.

The resident artist will be provided with a studio measuring 100 m² and a separate living accommodation (for single occupancy), with access to common living spaces. In addition, the Darling Foundry provides the laureate with organizational and technical assistance, promotion and networking opportunities. The resident artist will have the option to participate in open studio events, studio visits by arts professionals, and trips to artistic events. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee consisting of arts professionals.

The Darling Foundry, located in Old Montreal (Quebec, Canada), is an alternative visual arts complex with an outstanding architectural design. The Darling Foundry provides opportunities for research, creation, production, and exhibition. Its multifaceted spaces, spanning 3500 m², provide room for residency studios, living accommodations, technical workshops, gallery spaces, a restaurant and offices.

Hurricane Sandy Artist in Residence

The Madison Museum of Fine Art is offering an Artist in Residence Program to an artist who has lost a home and studio space in Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, New York, or other state affected by the storm. The art museum will provide immediate living accommodations and studio space for 6 months, up to 1 year if needed, in exchange for providing a few art workshops/ lectures at the Museum and visiting the K-12 public schools. Canon Female Photojournalist Award

Since the year 2000, the Association des Femmes Journalistes and Canon France, in partnership with the international Visa pour l’Image festival, and with the support of Figaro Magazine, have awarded an annual prize for women photojournalists.

Women photojournalists worldwide are welcome to enter the competition, for which there is no age limit. The 8,000-euro award enables the winners to finance their projects and have their work exhibited at the festival in Perpignan and later in Paris at the Cosmos Galery.

LMCC’s core fundraising series moves to Harlem this summer! Designed to help artists develop knowledge and skills in raising the resources to support their practice, the series features five free workshops on Wednesday evenings from June 5 through July 3, and a follow-up session of one-on-one grantwriting consultations on July 31 for participants who attend three or more workshops. Covered topics include: the funding ecosystem, grantwriting, budgeting, work sample dos and don'ts, and cultivating individual donors.
The series is free, but space is limited and registration is required for each workshop on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opens Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 12PM.
Participants who attend three or more workshops in the series will be invited to register for a follow-up consultation session on July 31 to receive direct feedback on a proposal in process. See “About the Grantwriting Consultations” for details.

Marler Media Art Awards 2013

Since 1984 the Museum of Sculpture Glaskasten Marl has hosted the Video Art Award, and since 2002 the Sound Art Award, which will be further developed to the EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD.

The Museum in Marl has shaped the unique profile of the Marl Media Awards not only through its orientation as sculpture museum, but also on the strength of its placement in the modernist architecture of the Town Hall, completed in 1966. Because sculpture is a genus to which multifocality and spatial reference are crucial, the video art competition was for the first time launched with a specific substantive focus-for all artists whose video works address questions of spatiality. The works submitted for the Video Art Award must relate thematically, formally or in its presentation to the specific (museum) space. The same idea applies to the parallel competition in sound art. The national restriction has also been dropped, and the new competitions are announced internationally.

Two international prize-juries for video art and sound art will select the winners of the Marler Media Art Awards 2013, whose works will be exhibited in the Museum of Sculpture Glaskasten Marl.

The awards ceremony of the Marler Media Art Awards 2013 and the exhibition opening will take place on 20 October 2013 in the Museum of Sculpture Glaskasten Marl.

The Blank Residency, Italy

The purpose of the project is to give hospitality to Italian and international artists for a short/medium period and offer them accommodation and relations aimed to develop artistic researches both practical and theoretical. The residency is conceived of meeting and work place where share ideas and experiences.
The artists in residence will be asked to work on a project proposal which will be develop during their staying and to share it with The Blank.  The project proposal will be presented at the conclusion of the residency during the Open Studio day.
At the beginning of the residency artists will introduce themselves to the community with an informal presentation of their previous activities and works. The residency period concludes with an Open Studios day and the presentation of the project proposal developed during their staying.
We are particularly interested in artists engaging the local community and/or working with the socio-cultural characteristics of the city and its territory.
A maximum of 2 artists will be selected among the applicants who will share accommodation, studio, kitchen and bathroom.

The Chinati Foundation's Artist in Residence program

The Chinati Foundation's Artist in Residence program was instituted in 1989 with the aim of supporting the development of artists of diverse ages, backgrounds, and disciplines. To date, the Chinati Foundation has hosted more than 75 artists from more than fifteen countries in its residency program.

The Artist in Residence program provides an opportunity for artists from around the world to work in a striking, natural environment. Exhibitions are often held at the conclusion of the residency. These become an important part of the museum's temporary exhibition program, and provide a vital counterpoint to the permanent collection.
The Chinati Foundation provides a furnished apartment on the museum's grounds and a studio in Marfa. Resident artists have unlimited access to Chinati's collection and archive, and the museum staff and interns are available to assist in securing materials and preparing exhibitions. A stipend of $1,000 is provided to assist with travel and art materials.
The Chinati Foundation maintains a casual environment, and it is up to the artists to develop their own work schedule. Marfa is a small town in a sparsely populated area of far West Texas, and artists may spend a great deal of time alone. A residency at Chinati is ideal for those artists who seek a quiet and sympathetic environment with few distractions. The average residency lasts two to three months; this can be adjusted according to individual needs and the resources of the museum.
Individuals have been chosen for the 2013 and 2014 Chinati Artist in Residence program.

RU AT CASITA MARIA CENTER FOR ARTS AND EDUCATION RESIDENCY in NYC

This open call is reserved for New York based artists exclusively for two consecutive 3 month residencies between July 2013 and March 2014. For the 3^rd consecutive year, Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education and Residency Unlimited (RU) are renewing their partnership to create a community-based residency program that is based between Casita Maria’s state of the art facility in the South Bronx, NY and  Residency Unlimited’s space in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. We are looking to work with artists for whom audience or community participation plays a major role in their practice and who will work alongside Bronx-based youth and their families as they develop their new project.
What does this residency provide?
A two-fold experience with 2 vibrant organizations putting their resources together to present and disseminate the creative product to a broad range of audiences.
A studio space for 3 months starting July 1 at Casita Maria free of charge. Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education is a nonprofit community-based organization and home to the Bronx Studio School for Writer and Artists (a NYC 6th – 12th grade public school). The resident artist can work closely with the young students served by the organization.
From its event space based at 360 Court Street in Brooklyn, Residency Unlimited (RU) will provide the selected artist with customized logistical support, enhanced networking opportunities and access to its general programming within the context of the international residency program. A public presentation of the new work developed will be organized in a format to be determined in conjunction with the artist and the RU staff.
What are the criteria for selection?
Besides quality of the artist’s work, the core criterion is the artist’s willingness to work with the communities of which Casita Maria as well as engage with the RU community and attend events.
The studio space at Casita Maria will typically be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each week-day. In addition, occasional weekends and evenings will be made available.
Eligible applicants must be able to commit to spending 25 hours of time @ Casita Maria per month, with the purpose of executing a selected project.

Several artists have been successful in seeking donations of supplies and materials from businesses or museums in their home communities prior to coming to Badlands
for their residency, using the reimbursement as matching funds.
Each artist is asked to contribute to the park a mutually agreed upon piece of original work representative of their stay in Badlands National Park within one year of completion of their residency.
Because of Badlands’ strong commitment to education and outreach into our rural school districts, all artists are required to present two sessions in a local school to introduce students to an aspect of art and its interpretation of their Badlands home.
We consider all forms of arts except those that manipulate or disturb the park’s environment or are disrespectful to any race or gender. Selections are made without regard to race, religion, marital status, sex, age, or national origin. The facilities for this program are not wheelchair accessible.

Triangle Residency in Brooklyn

An outgrowth of Artists’ Workshop, Triangle Residency was created in 2002. The residency offers spacious studios for artists to realize large-scale, long-term projects and provides a collegial working environment. Studio residents are chosen yearly based upon a competitive portfolio submission application that is reviewed by a jury of New York based arts professionals and Triangle board members and staff. Each artist’s stay culminates in an Open Studio exhibition to which the general public is invited. Resident artists will also receive studio visits from critics, writers and curators.
Although studio space is provided twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, free of charge, resident artists are responsible for all other expenses including housing, travel, materials and meals. In addition, artists are expected to spend a minimum of 15 hours a week working in their studio or will be asked to leave the program.

Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR) is an organization founded in 2011 that seeks to bring the best gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered emerging contemporary artists to Fire Island, a place long-steeped in GLBT history, to create, commune, and contribute to the location’s rich artistic history. FIAR will offer live/work spaces for selected artists who will participate in a summer residency while immersed in the Fire Island community.
FIAR is dedicated to artists engaged in contemporary creative practices. Leading innovators in contemporary art serve as mentors, living alongside participants and providing them with one-on-one studio visits. These guests also share their experiences with the community through intimate and public lectures and salons. In this way, FIAR hopes to bring both new creative perspectives and prestigious art professionals together in this extraordinary location to foster the creation — and preservation — of queerness in contemporary art.
Located off the south shore of Long Island, a few hours travel from New York City, Fire Island is the home of two historically prominent LGBT communities, Cherry Grove and The Pines. The older of the two, and the home of FIAR, Cherry Grove has evolved from a bohemian theater retreat in the early 1900s to a thriving resort for the LGBT community at large.
Fire Island is the birthplace and inspiration for countless works of art, literature, choreography, and music, and has been host to queer visionaries like Robert Mapplethorpe, Frank O’Hara, Tennessee Williams, W.H. Auden, Edmund White and countless others. Throughout their many changes, Cherry Grove and the Pines have preserved the integrity of the dunes and beaches that have defined this intimate, remote location. There are no roads on Fire Island; raised wooden walkways and footpaths provide a network of paths from homes to beaches to tiny enclaves of shops, restaurants, hotels and bars. Miles of clothing optional beaches and historic woods provide places to explore the richness of this setting and make for exciting places to unwind, and the bars, town centers, and community halls provide plenty of options for meeting locals and visitors from the city.

Development for Gorna Lipnitsa Association together with Gorna Lipnitsa Municipality is pleased to invite you to participate in the fourth edition of the Art Residence “The Оld School” – 2013. Within one week the building of the ex-school will shelter artists from different nations, who will create art together, with the idea of working in a new environment.
Theme: RITUAL ART
The work of the artists, during the Art Residence, will be based on previously developed materials, which will represent different rituals – folk, religious, occult, etc. In essence, the ritual is an action, or series of actions, designed to achieve a particular goal. Тhe purpose of the ritual art is to stimulate the artist to create a work using the techniques of the ritual. Every action in this process has its own meaning and should be done in strictly followed rules. The final result is reaching a significant public purpose.
The disciplines for participation in the 2013 edition are:
1. Painting
2. Wood sculpture
3. Photography
4. Visual arts and installations
5. Wall-painting
6. Music
7. Performance
8. Short movies
The Residence provides:
Food and places of accommodation for participants;
Free internet connection;
Workspace – indoor workshops and photo studio, open air space for work, movie and concert salon;
Materials for work;
Organized transportation during the residence /if needed/;
Contact with the local community;
Letters of invitation and other support to enable you to raise additional funds;
Translation;
Parallel program, connected with the theme of the residence;
A closing exhibition in the end of the residence;
Media coverage of the event;
Presentation of the participants and their works through online exhibition;
Certificate for participation.
Expenses paid by artist: travelling to Gorna Lipnitsa.

Each candidate should send us:
- CV
- the name of the selected discipline;
- an actual internet link with works, portfolio or pictures of works;
In case you have a specific idea for participating in the residence, you could describe it in short.
Note that it is desirable for the participants to stay for the entire period of the residence.
Fee:
Administrative fee for processing applications: 5 euro.
The collected money will be used to conduct the residence.
