2015 Art on Parade - Northglenn, CO

Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is conducting an open entry competition to select six sculptures ─ valued at no more than $25,000 each ─ to be part of Northglenn’s “Art on Parade” on-loan sculpture program.  The selected pieces will be installed for a period of one year at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park surrounding Webster Lake in Northglenn, Colorado.

Each of the six finalists will receive a $700 honorarium to help offset their expenses. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the artist who is the recipient of the annual “People’s Choice Award.” Artists will receive substantial recognition and opportunity to sell; therefore, all pieces must be for sale.  The placement of selected pieces will begin in late May, 2015 and will be on display until May, 2016.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, the NAHF has purchased each of the People’s Choice winning sculptures.  Although the purchase of the People’s Choice winner is not guaranteed, it is the goal of the Foundation to purchase permanent art for the City of Northglenn through the program.

Submitted sculptures are to be garden-sized or larger (at least three feet in one dimension) and valued at no more than $25,000.  The sculpture must be completed before submission deadline.

Pieces must be ready for outdoor installation and have the capability to be welded to a 1/4" steel plate for installation.  Another method for installation is a mounting system using no less than 3/8” bolts.  If using the bolt system, a minimum of a three point bolting system is required.

Durable outdoor medium is acceptable.  It is imperative that submissions withstand the elements and abuse of an outdoor display.  No hanging sculptures, wooden sculptures, or water features.

Please submit three images of ONE sculpture: two images clearly showing the front and back of the sculpture; one other showing detail.  Be sure to show the scale of the work.  NOTE: Multiple sculpture submissions are allowed. You must create a Café profile and registration for each piece submitted.  In addition, you will need to upload a new set of images to each of your profiles. Registration content is not transferable from one account to another. Return to CaFE Registration (https://www.callforentry.org/register_info.php) to start a new profile.

The six sculptures chosen must represent six different artists.  If submitting more than one sculpture, the highest scoring sculpture will be considered.

Edition sizes over 50 will not be accepted.

Insurance will be provided by the City of Northglenn.

All works will be screened to ensure artistic merit and appropriateness for outdoor display.  A committee of local citizens, businesses, students and NAHF members will select the sculptures to be displayed.

Sculptures will be installed late May to early June and will remain on display for one year unless sold or prior arrangements are made.

The NAHF will be responsible for working with local and regional media to promote the art.  A full-color brochure describing the sculptures will be developed and distributed to interested citizens and visitors.

All submissions, including .jpg formatted photos, must be submitted via the CaFE website at https://www.callforentry.org/index.php. Videos are also accepted when mailed or emailed to the Director.  For additional information, please contact Director Michael Stricker at (303) 450-8727 or by email at mstricker@northglenn.org.  11801 Community Center Drive, Northglenn CO 80233.

Deadline for submission is February 27, 2015.

The NAHF, founded in 1990, provides funding for quality youth theatre, public art, and other cultural endeavors in the Denver, Colorado area’s north metro communities.  The Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) provides major funding for Art On Parade.

These metals will be provided without charge to the artist or artists who receive the commission . Each sculpture must be site specific to the area chosen for placement.
An artist may apply for either one or for both commissions. One sculpture will incorporate recovered aluminum from the historic bank building in the downtown area. These recovered materials may be incorporated into the sculpture in any manner or quantity that the artist may choose.
MATERIALS
Steel from water tower. The steel material available to the artist consists of four pieces of steel obtained during the removal of the downtown area water tower that was built in the 1960's. The sizes of the steel are 6" x 8" x 1/4",5 1/2' x 8'-9" x 1/4", 6' x 9' x 1/4" and 4 1/2' x 6' x 1/4"The larger pieces weigh about 600 lbs each with a slight curve to each piece. Aluminum from exterior of America's Community Bank. The aluminum material available to the artist consists of 13 pieces of fabricated exterior aluminum siding dating back to the late 1960's. Each piece has a unique bow tie shaped design. The aluminum is thin and bendable. Each piece is 5" wide x 1'-0" height x 3'-0" length. The center tapers down center to 9 1/4" height. The front of each piece is not painted, but the back of each piece is painted teal. Call to artists: Look Again 2015 - North East Scotland

Practitioners from a wide spectrum of creative disciplines are invited to submit proposals for a site-specific commission to take place in Aberdeen as part of the inaugural Look Again 2015.
Introduction - Look Again - ‘Forging Creative Connections’ Look Again 2015 is a five-day focus on visual art and design taking place in Aberdeen, Scotland. The festival will commence on Wednesday 8 April and will continue until Sunday 12 April, working with various partners and across a variety of venues and locations.
Our ambition is for Look Again to grow and develop into a larger annual festival that will showcase the very best in visual art and design in North East Scotland.
Artist Brief – ‘Look at Me!’
Deadline: 07 December 2014 at 17:00
Aberdeen’s city centre has a diverse range of sculptures. These range from traditional to contemporary and perform many functions, such as commemoration, memorial and remembrance, as well as the expression of ideas. As part of the festivals first years focus on visual arts and design we are interested in applicants responding to the traditional figurative statues, which form part of an existing sculpture trail within Aberdeen city.
We believe these monuments have become like wallpaper to the residents of Aberdeen and through a new and inspiring piece of public art we wish to highlight their historical references, unheard stories and lively anecdotes.
These creative interventions will re-engage our residents with this trail; becoming tourists in their own city. Many of these public sculptures date from the 19th century, and artists, when developing their proposal, may wish to reflect on how modern considerations of ethnicity and gender balance could be addressed in their projects.
We would like to invite applicants to design elements for the sculptures that are a new creative intervention and will redress these monuments; this can take the form of oversized jewellery, a complete textile wrap, a change of colour. It is up to the individual or group to create an intervention that will engage the general public to look again at an existing historical sculpture.
This opportunity is open to all artists, designers as well as creative thinkers and makers. We have identified seven sculptures within Aberdeen city centre and one site has been earmarked for applicants to engage and work with a community or group, to develop the project and together redress the piece of public art. We welcome applications from individuals, groups and collectives and each applicant can apply for more than one site or all the sites.
Budget
*A total budget of £13,800.00 is available for 6 of the commissions.
(Each site has a budget of £2300.00)
*Community Engagement Commission - £4300.00
How to apply:
If you are interested in this opportunity and for further information, please contact SMART Consultants (Producers of Look Again 2015 in partnership with RGU) to request a full brief.
Email: info@wearesmartconsultants.co.uk or call 01224561977,
The deadline is Sunday 07 December 2014 at 17:00pm.

  • All sculptures will be reviewed by a panel of CB&C employees who will select the two winning sculptures in its sole and absolute discretion.

Douglas County, CO Art Encounters 2014-2015

PROGRAM BENEFITS
• Artists have the opportunity to promote and sell their work;
• The program promotes interest and appreciation for public art;
• The program develops pride in each community and draws visitors to civic areas where sculptures are displayed;
• The program is marketed throughout Douglas County and beyond;
• Selected public art is strategically placed in high-traffic areas in the community for maximum exposure;
• Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend, payable after completion of the installation;
• A $1,000 People’s Choice honorarium will be awarded to one artist in May 2015;
• As noted by previous artist participant: “All of my success this year can be attributed to the fine people and support from the Douglas County Art Encounters Program, sponsored by SCFD. This program has been a great success for me in the fact that because I loaned the art work to them during the program, they not only had one outright purchase by a jurisdiction, but another jurisdiction facilitated the purchase of a second sculpture,” said 2008 and 2009 artist Christopher Romero.

PUBLIC ART SELECTION PROCESS
A Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from throughout Douglas County selects the artwork from applications submitted for this program. The Committee functions under the direction of the Douglas County Cultural Council.
The Public Art Advisory Committee selects the art and determines which art goes in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker. The displayed work is identified with the artist name, title of piece, year and the Art Encounters logo. The Art Encounters exhibit features both traditional and cutting-edge sculptures throughout Douglas County, Colorado.

2014 TIMELINE JANUARY 1, 2014
The call will open on Café.

FEBRUARY 14, 2014 The call will close on Café.

MID-LATE FEBRUARY
The Public Art Advisory Committee selects the artwork from the entries and then draws in order to choose which piece will be displayed at each jurisdiction’s location. Following selection, artists will receive e-mails indicating if their work has been selected. The jurisdiction will be in touch with artists whose work has been selected and provided with a contract. Failure to sign and return the contract by the specified date may result in the artist being dismissed from the exhibition.

MAY/JUNE 2014
The previous year's sculptures will be removed to make room for sculptures for the 2014-2015 program year. It is up to each jurisdiction to schedule installation for the sculptures in coordination with the artist.
