OPEN CALL FOR GCC KOREA RESIDENCY STUDIO PROGRAM 2014

Gyeonggi Creation Center is an artist residency located in the west coast of Korea. Established in 2009, GCC aims to support artists from around the world and from various fields of art for their creative work and research. With various programs and facilities alongside the studios, GCC hopes to be a dynamic platform for an experimental and progressive contemporary art.

For the 2014 Residency Studio Program, GCC will accept applications from artists of all fields including visual an
d performing arts, film and new media, literature, music and sound arts. Artists from respective fields may also apply in our 2014 Open call.

1. Outline of Open Call

Qualification
Artists with no restrictions on nationality, age, and media
Artists living and working overseas including the origin of Republic of Korea


Application Field
Studio residency Program
Visual arts: painting, sculpture, film/video, new media, architecture, design, photo
Performing arts: dance, performance, music, and sound
Literature: Poem, Fiction, Play, Children’s literature, Critique, Other
Allowed to apply for mixed media and other genres not shown above.


Residency Scope and Period
International artist residency program: 12 persons/teams approximately
Period: 3 months (A. Apr.~June 2014 / B. July~Sept. 2014 / C. Oct.~Dec. 2014)

2. Acceptance of Application

We recommend early application submission for heavy congestion of emails online may cause disadvantage for applicant.

A copy of application form for residency prescribed form(Downloadable from GCC web site)
A copy of passport
Portfolio: in the form of digital file (refer to below)


Materials for Portfolio
Visual arts
Image file of less than 15 pieces
The image file extension should be *.jpg
Video file of less than 5 minutes
The video file extension should be *.avi,
If the image is more than 15, and video is more than 5min., it could be selected and deleted randomly
If the files in form are different, it could be excluded.

Literature
Verses including poem, etc. - more than 20 pieces
Poem- max 20 pieces
Fiction, Play, Children’s literature, Essay-short max 3pieces, long max. 2pieces, full-length max. 1piece
Research, Investigation, Critique-max 10 pieces

3. Selection Procedure

Document review 1st private review by art profession Announcement of 1st selected applicants 2nd telephone interview with curators from GCC (for candidates passed for 1st review) Final Announcement of Successful Applicants
Schedule of Announcement Successful Applicants
1st announcement of qualifier: expected to be middle of Jan. 2014
2nd interview: result expected to be at the end of Jan. 2014
Final Selection Notification: the last week of Jan. 2014
Successful Applicants will be notified individually by email and through the homepage.
Schedule may be subject to change. 



4. Terms and Conditions/ Support Details 

Restrictions
Compliance with user rules and to actively participate in GCC programs
Using the studio for more than four days a week (If you are absent for a long period, you should discuss with the curatorial staff at GCC)
Submit the report at the end of the residency
Permitted to reside with one companion (required to notify beforehand)
No pets and babies are allowed


Support details
Work Studio
Provision of individual studio (1 room for 1 person/team) combined with accommodation
Provision of joint creation space (media lab, carpentry room, archive space
Program
Provision of opportunities to participate in residency programs (exhibition, workshop, mentoring, training program, open-studio etc.)
Recommendation to other exchange program between institutions
Other supports
Accident insurance
Opportunities to show artworks at GCC or art profession and institutions in Korea
No airfare and living cost provided.
Details will be discussed with Curatorial Team of GCC after being chosen as candidate. 



5. Notes

Cancelation Policy
We may cancel if these cases happen
If the applicant miss or provide false information on purpose
If the applicant have a plan to reside another residency(domestic or international) or stay more than 2 residencies at the same time.
