SPACE and LUX are delighted to announce a new collaborative residency programme based at LUX and the new SPACE-run cultural venue, The White Building, London’s centre for art, technology and sustainability.
Proposals are invited from artists to undertake a research-based residency within the LUX
collection, Europe's largest collection of artists' film and video,
leading to the creation of new work and the production of a series of
events during the residency period at The White Building.
Founded in 1966, the LUX
Collection represents over 6000 works by more than 1500 artists dating
from the early twentieth century to the present day. Originally
established with a policy of open access submission, the changing nature
of the organisation
and its acquisition policies over the decades have created a eclectic
combination of well-known and near unseen works, spanning experimental
film, performance, essay film through to contemporary digital video.
This residency invites artists to consider the context of the collection
in relationship to their own practice, with the potential to explore
not only the works within it but the economic structures, material
histories, relationships and even ellipses that surround it. As part of
their research the artist will be encouraged and supported to stage a
series of events (such as screenings, talks and performances) that
reflect on their project during the course of the residency.
